5 YR PLANS
I’m looking forward to the imagined emptiness and loneliness of Los Angeles this weekend. Thanks, Coachella. You and I may just meet up one day.
For now, I will just lament.

If you can’t tell already, I’m a depressed mess. It’s a recession and just not a good time to be single Vietnamese male in Los Angeles.
US ALLEGES BABY-SELLING IN VIETNAM
TWO MAJOR US RETAILERS RATION RICE AMID GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS
and no, I am not going to Coachella this weekend.
please consider this my one and only cry for help. cell phone’s dead so leave a comment, ha!
In continuing with the blackpeopledoingwhitepeople business, here’s a classic clip from Martin, in which Martin Lawrence does the Bob from Marketing character. As far as I know this was the character’s only appearance. I remember watching this episode with my brother and this stuff left us in stitches. This took me a whole 1/2 an hour to find, so please enjoy and thank your lucky stars again for youtube.
Here’s a cut down version, dude truned off embedding unfort.
And while you’re probably thinking about it, it’s spelled “Sheneneh.”
The problem with being nice and accomodating is that people will take advantage of you and ultimately that leaves you with less time for doing the things you want to do for yourself, by yourself.
It’s like that right now, socially and professionally which really stinks because I’m just getting into Battlestar Galactica and Gossip Girl.

Fer real. A Murakami name-drop five minutes into episode 1? This show was made for me.
I was watching a video podcast of The Wire’s Out of Character segment with Reg E Cathay, who plays Carcetti’s political advisor on seasons 4 and 5 and he mentioned that his first big break in the business was on a show called Square One TV.
Now me and my brother spent many summers in front of the televion under no adult supervision, so thankfully Square One TV was good enough to hold our attention for a few hours a week. Being the determined Wire freak that I am, it only took me a few minutes to find a Square One clip with my man Norman.
Check it out and thank your lucky stars for Youtubes.
It has been so uncomfortably quiet in my social life that I am beginning to think that I have unsuspectedly offended all of my friends in my sleepwalking.
Yes, I’ve recently become a sleepwalker.
My brother Francis now fancies himself as a music video director.
Nice going, tho a star-wipe would have helped.
and yes, that dog has one messed-up eye.
- I was able to figure out how to make my own customized ringtones on my iPhone. Unfortunately I’ve been kinda lazy about it and am currently annoying myself with Lipgloss by Lil Mama and The Best by Tina Turner. Kidding, my phone NEVER rings.
- I got ticks to go see She & Him at the Vista. Change is Hard is my favorite song of 2008 so far. Here’s a link to the interview with some more songs.
- Why was I not alerted to this earlier? I will wear his clothes someday. I am determined.
- Last night I saw one of the dudes from Flight of the Conchords and Demetri Martin eating at Fred 62. I wonder if any of them got the million dollar pancakes as those are pretty awesome.
- I went to the dentist last week. No cavities, ma!
One of my favorite comedic bits is when black people do white people voices. Dave Chapelle, Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor are great at this, but I was re-watching the Wire season 4 the other day and my man Prop Joe nails it on a recon phone call on behalf of Marlo.
Luckily, Youtube saves the day.
Last night I was sneezing my way through the latest issue of Vanity Fair (too many perfume ads) and ran across a piece in the Fanfare section regarding the renewed interest in Acapella groups.
Really? Still?
(sigh) As long as people are still buying shot glasses of countries they’ve visited, certain novelties will never die.
Here are 2 recent clips I’ve seen in the last couple of months -
“Your Ex - Lover is Dead” orig. by Stars (via Canadiction)
“Knife” orig. by Grizzly Bear
I’ve seen Spiritualized live a total of 5 times and J. Spaceman never speaks during the concert. No stage banter whatsoever. I take that back - he’s says two words each time I see him live - Thank You - at the end of each show.
So you can understand how blown away I was when this clip of him explaining the making of his new music video “Soul on Fire” showed up on Youtube. He actually seems like a real down to earth guy.
thanks to Chairman Meow.
BTW - Soul on Fire is probably my favorite new Spiritualized song. I heard it live with a few other new songs (I’m not going to DL the leaked album) when I went to both nights of the Acoustic Mainline shows at the Vista Theater down the street from where I live.
The song gave me goose bumps (both nights, same moment) but the standing ovations went to a re-worked version of Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space that carried more of Can’t Help Falling in Love melody, which was pretty amazing.
Here’s a sweet video of Soul on Fire performed live at the MFA in Boston.
Caveat Emptor - You really had to be there.

So it looks like someone uploaded a video clip of my proposal to my little smokestack at the Dodgers Game which went on the Jumbotron. Word of Advice - The BEST $500 dollars I ever spent.
I like these commercials more than the Sudoku messes of Babel and 21 Grams. Why is it that his shortform narrative filmmaking tends to be more linear (i.e. these commercials and his BMW short film Powder Keg)?

Yeah. Say what you will about things happening too fast, but you gotta strike the anvil when it’s hot, kids. And the anvil is HOTT.
Don’t be offended if you don’t get a “Save the Date.” Me and the Missus are doing it on the cheap at City Hall. Those rocks set me back, forilla.
