Speaking of Panels . . .

Wire Panel at the Museum of the Moving Image. Some tasty bits.

Sometimes I wish I lived in NYC.

A Triumvirate of Awesome

Pineapple Express panel at Comic-Con with the Human Giant.

Yeah, now that Dark Knight is done with, this is the next movie I am really looking forward to seeing. I keep borrowing George Washington from the local library on the weekends, but am never in the mood to watch it. Did anyone see Snow Angels? I actually really liked that one, but everyone else skipped it. If you haven’t seen All The Real Girls, I can only kinda recommend it as it’s really hit and miss with people (I LOVED it).

I Will Cover Myself With Sorrow

Is it just me or is yesterday’s earthquake still a bit haunting? The unfortunate thing is my printer sits on top of my desk so there’s a constant shaking as I’m printing a bunch of stuff today. I could move it, but that requires too much effort.

Last night I slept in 2 hour intervals for a good part of the night since my apt is situated near the driveway and the rumbling of cars only added a DTS/THX experience to my dreams.

I read somewhere that after the earthquake in China, people could not set their phones to vibrate during the aftershock period.

I’m sure I’ll get over it sooner than later. Regardless, here’s a song that I feel is somewhat appropriate in light of yesterday’s events and for some other personal reasons I’ve been listening to it constantly during the days leading up to yesterday.

The Pogues - Tuesday Morning - Live on Letterman

The funny thing is, Spider Stacy looks and sounds a lot like a young Shane MacGowan in this clip. If it weren’t for the closeups where you can see his teeth, you would have never noticed.

7-29-08 - The Day of the 5.4 or AKA the Day Scrabulous Died

So I got under my desk here at work and “held on” while everybody else here acted like a champ and just sat at their desk. Seriously, it was freaky. I thought about heading over to the door jamb A.C. Slater-style but the distance seemed a little shady.

And yeah, being an East Coaster my only earthquake experience was the one I watched on Saved By The Bell years ago, tho I don’t remember TOOL playing in the background.

Debating whether or not I wanna pay someone to sleep in my bed with me tonight.

The Most Clever Thing I Did All Day

It was a slow day.

They Don’t Make’m Like They Used To

My favorite music videos have always been the ones with movie tie-ins and incorporate the film footage in a very dramatic way.

Some of my personal favs:

Madonna - Crazy For You - Vision Quest

Phil Collins - Against All Odds - Against All Odds

Pulp - Like a Friend - Great Expectations

U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - Batman Forever
(embedding disabled)

Peter Cetera - Glory of Love - The Karate Kid pt 2

After posting this I will add Vision Quest and Against All Odds to my Netflix queue, those films look pretty dope.

Why I Don’t Do the Whole Netflix Buddies Thing . . .

. . . because it’s probably less embarrassing when your friends are over at your place and see that you’ve rented Sleepless in Seattle as you’re given the opportunity to plead that you’re watching it only because the screenwriting book you’re reading references it throughout.

And I know I’m breaking my moratorium of swearing on this site when I say this, but man, FUCK that movie.

Empire State Building? Bullshit.

Get Back To Me

Unpretty - TLC (users have turned off embedding)

One of my favorite songs of all time. Really. Been thinking about body politics of late as I’m trying to lose as much weight as I can by going to Bikram Yoga and going 80% vegetarian. At what point does THAT routine become unhealthy?

On a side note, can you think of any dude versions of Unpretty? You’d think by now with all the emo kids in skinny jeans with tight vintage shirts someone would have stood up to this madness.

The only song I can think of off the top of my head is Ted Leo’s “Me and Mia.” For years I never got the real message of the song. I was introduced to Ted Leo’s music by a friend in DC who happened to be named Anna, so I always associated the song with a group of friends hanging out. Unless you’re an idiot like me it should be clear that this song is about eating disorders - bulimia and anorexia.

Whatevers!

NY MAG SLAMS RICKY GERVAIS MSG SHOW.

I was at the Kodak Theater show on Saturday and thought Ricky was the funniest thing ever. My friends seemed to agree also, tho the girl sitting next to me kept going “oh, no. oh, no he did not just make fun of . . . Anne Frank . . . fat people . . . cancer patients . . . AIDS . . . Simon Cowell.”

Supposedly, the MSG show will air on HBO and I assume a DVD release will follow.

I will say now that I have my doubts about the Ghost Town trailer.

Check you kids later. I’m going to go stand in line now for The Dark Knight.

SAVE AS DRAFT

All,

I will be late coming into the office on the morning of Friday the 18th.

I will be either:

a) in a job interview

b) at the doctors

c) too tired from a midnight screening of The Dark Knight at the Vista Theater

d) late? I make my own hours in this house.

I will be reachable by cell phone, maybe.

Best.

Terry

Bought my ticket over the weekend. Anyone care to join me?

Today does not feel like summer.

DK! OMG! 7-18-08!!!

I haven’t bought advance ticks for IMAX or the Arclight in hopes that The Vista will have a midnight screening and I can just get ticks at the door for that. Tho, I can’t imagine walkng home alone that night (Man up, son! You were alright walking home from Zodiac by yerself).

I’m thinking of taking that Friday off to see this joint like, 5 times. I also got Wolf Parade that night (and 2 tix just became available, so hit me up if you want go). Most Awesome Weekend Ever.

I had a dream nightmare the other day in which this movie sucked. My subconscience re-imagined the whole film as a courtroom drama with Sara Jessica Parker as the judge. The Joker kept making objections and even Katie Holmes showed up.

Note to self: Don’t watch Sex and the City before going to bed.

Speaking of the opposite of horrible:

i am the dark knight

Unfortunately, this sweet symbol would not fit in my car and they aren’t allowing it in my personal office. Y so serious? Oh and I am not allowed to say officially why the symbol is in my office, but I’ll give you a hint - it rhymes with Boot Krollups.

Watch The World Spinning

The weekend went by too quickly to be thoroughly enjoyed, but oh yes, it was enjoyed. Hung out with old friends, met some new ones and had some BBQ (Korean!).

Feeling a bit out of sync lately, hoping things will correct themselves sooner than later.

On a different note -

Here are 2 of my favorite perfomances on late night television.

Blur - Out of Time - Live on Letterman

Blur - Tender - Live on Letterman

BTW, that’s the Harlem Boy’s Choir backing them up.

Marry Me, Little Boots.

Sure, she goofs it up a bit around 4:25, but isn’t she soooo cute? Remember, the song was originally written for Kylie Minogue, so it’s nice to hear the song as it was originally intended, because Hot Chip’s version does come across as a bit homoerotic. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Just sayin!

BTW, A Tenori-On will set you back 1,200 USD. Wait until the recession’s over, kids. Stick to the turntables, Francis!
