Unpretty - TLC (users have turned off embedding)

One of my favorite songs of all time. Really. Been thinking about body politics of late as I’m trying to lose as much weight as I can by going to Bikram Yoga and going 80% vegetarian. At what point does THAT routine become unhealthy?

On a side note, can you think of any dude versions of Unpretty? You’d think by now with all the emo kids in skinny jeans with tight vintage shirts someone would have stood up to this madness.

The only song I can think of off the top of my head is Ted Leo’s “Me and Mia.” For years I never got the real message of the song. I was introduced to Ted Leo’s music by a friend in DC who happened to be named Anna, so I always associated the song with a group of friends hanging out. Unless you’re an idiot like me it should be clear that this song is about eating disorders - bulimia and anorexia.
