My name is Terry and this is my blog.

I am currently living in Los Angeles.

I like films, music, and don't even get me started on long walks on the beach.

I don't read a lot of books, but am always fishing for book recommendations.

My parents are Vietnamese and I was born in America.

That's all you really need to know upfront.

01/23/2007: "Oscar Noms"

I know all 2 of you that read this blog haven't seen Dreamgirls and can't relate to my frustration this morning when the Academy Award nominations were announced. Seriously, if Chicago could win a few years back, I can't understand why Dreamgirls was overlooked in the Best Picture category. I honestly enjoyed this film from the first frame till the last. I won't say anythign about Jennifer Hudson, because let's face it, anything goes in the Best Supporting Actress category (Marcia Gay Harden, Kim Basinger, anyone?).

Another snub - Leonardo Dicaprio for The Departed. Sure, he was excellent in Blood Diamond, but his role in The Departed was better realized, I guess. Also, I thought Matt Damon was pretty fgood in the film too.

While I did enjoy Little Miss Sunshine, I think nominating an indie-darling film for the sake of indie-darling films really messes it up for bigger films (like Dreamgirls) and smaller-yet deserving films(like United 93, hardly an indie-darling, but one of the most important films of 2006).

I am very happy tho to see Ryan Gosling nominated for Half Nelson, one of my favorite films of 2006.

Thankfully, Marie Antoinette was nominated for costume, but should have gotten another one for art direction.

Any thoughts out there? Password for commenting is: huynh

I just saw Dreamgirls and I thought it was a wee bit too long for my tastes. If anything, Jennifer Hudson made me like the film - seriously, she is nuggin futs - dug her mucho.

Leo was good in the Departed - Blood Diamond isn't that great. To get hipster geek - the "bling bling - bling blam" was an incorrect reference. I should add that to the wiki entry.

Need to see United 93 and Half Nelson.
