My name is Terry and this is my blog.

I am currently living in Los Angeles.

I like films, music, and don't even get me started on long walks on the beach.

I don't read a lot of books, but am always fishing for book recommendations.

My parents are Vietnamese and I was born in America.

That's all you really need to know upfront.

F.Y.I.

mood: tgimff

Just wanted to let everybody know that I've posted an update over at NEWDAYCOOP - there's some awesome Season 5 Wire news coming in and it's only getting me more excited for the new Season. The Season 4 DVD set comes out next week, just in time for the holiday shopping season (hint, hint, hint).

For tonight, me and a couple of peeps are headed here. Should be a fun time.

Lastly, my favorite film of all time is playing tomorrow night that the Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax as part of the HOLY FUCKING KIDSHIT Festival. I'd hate to go by myself for the same reason I don't go to Chuck E. Chese by myself anymore despite my cravings for their pizza, so I may wear a hat and beard and trenchcoat and some sunglasses to disguise myself. YEAH!!!!

If you haven't seen it, the film is a fucking masterpiece. Gene Siskel named it the best movie of 1998, sadly, the year he passed away.

RECONSIDERING MY RELATIONSHIP WITH KCRW

music: Age of Consent - Kevin Drew
mood: winding down

(pic by me, taken on the night of thier show at the Wiltern)

For the last couple of days, LAIST has been posting best of lists by KCRW DJs and day after day I have become increasingly frsutrated by the absence of The National's Boxer, which has been favorited to be numbe 1 on a lot of year-end lists. I assume that there are a few more DJ's at KCRW that are waiting to post their year-end lists (it's still only November) but the results so far are surprising. Come to think of it, I rarely hear The National played on any radio station here in LA and I wonder if it's some West Coast disadvantage they have.

Don't get me wrong - I love KCRW. Over the last three years we've had a great relationship - I give them money and they give me things like free tickets to the Watson Twins at Spaceland (where I saw Kirsten Dunst and Ashley Olson), Arcade Fire tickets, a signed Freaks and Geeks DVD box set, a pair of customized Vans and a Morning becomes Eclectic CD price pack hand-picked by Nic Harcourt. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I do wonder if they have some kind of beef with The National (and Okkervil River for that matter).

Personally, Boxer is currently my favorite album of the year and I'm going to wait a few more weeks before jumping the gun and posting my year end list. And while I'm thinking abut it, I would bet a plate of pancakes at Fred 62 that Boxer will top the Village Voice's list but only break the top ten over at Pitchfork (with Battles taking number 1).

You heard it hear first.

p.s. I'm a complete nerd about year-end lists.

My Life at Wernham Hogg

music: we are on a road to nowhere we are on a road to nowhere HEEHHH HEEHHH

A few weeks ago WIRED MAGAZINE posted the winners of their Saddest Cubicle Contest . I found this contest to be quite depressing and in an effort to entertain myself I decided to "let things go" a bit in my own office. Don't try to comprehend the logic behind that one, I surely can't.

Trust me, what you are about to see is NOT pretty and took a lot of effort on my part (well, not really). If you're wondering what my co-workers think, well, they never really ccome to visit me in my dark cave, but those who do brave the barrier between the haves and the have-nots always find something delightfully witty to say (the worst of which was "looks like Hurricane Katrina came here as well" [I shit you not]). As long as I get my job done and laugh at their jokes, it's all good.

Now, these pictures were taken a few weeks ago at what must have been the peak of my disorder. Fortunately an editing session with a director arose a few days later and I had to quickly get my shit togther. The office was spotless for a while (the weekend that I wasn't there), and then shit got really busy again (i.e. Monday came) and right now it's pretty much back to the original sad state of affairs.

A guided tour (you may want to sit down for this):

A peak into my world

Now you've officially crossed the border

The actual workspace

It never occurs to me to get 2 mousepads.

There's a DVD player hiding somehere in this picture (it's near the remote)

Someone asked for a fire wire cable that morning. I never bothered to close the box and push it back.

I know what you're thinking - "Those are expensive couches, why on earth would you put anything on them?" The truth of the matter is, people throw their shit on my couches ALL THE FUCKING TIME, including the sweaty tushies (can I say tushies?)

Why the hell are my sunglasses on the floor? Man, that really angers me now. Actually you probably can't see them.

Hmmm . . . the trash can's pretty empty, there's a wedding invitation on the floor and why are there a pair of pliers next to a champagne glass with actual champagne in it?

Actually, this looks pretty clean. Yes, I do keep a 7 inch of ALL MY FRIENDS in my office to give the appearance that I keep it real.

Like I said before, the current office condition has not deviated much from these picutres. Living like a slob does get tiresome after a while and I do "plan" on cleaning all this stuff up sometime soon. Definitely before my yearly review, which is next summer, ha ha ha.

Now you have the "Before" pictures. The over/under on when the "After" pictures get posted is Christmas.

RANDOM TUESDAY

music: Atmosphere by Joy Division
mood: Iceland looks like the place to be

Some random thoughts for Tuesday -

-is Tila Tequila the most famous Vietnamese-American Viet Kieu, like, ever?

-finding a plus one to my company's Christmas party is proving to be much more fucking difficult than I imagined. To add insult to injury, the secretary "forgot" to type "and guest" next to my name on the invite list. Presumptuous valley girl. Seriously, if you're a decent bowler (but not better than me) and are fluent in the language of awkward conversation, you know where to find me. Party's at Citywalk, but, I mean this in all honesty, 818's need not apply.

-good things come in threes- here's a pic of me in my dark cold office looking pretty angry.

A Case of the Mondayz

music: Lord, shine a light on me
mood: tomorrow will be brilliant

Work was difficult today, but I survived. Could have been worse, I guess.

For all my faithful readers, there's a lot to catch up on - 3 weddings, a few concerts and a slew of excellent films I've seen recently. Eh, we'll see how it goes, you know me. Tho, today I did get to work 20 minutes early, so maybe this is the beginning of that great-turnaround I've been plotting in my head.

Anyway, to hold you over here, are two of my favorite photos so far this year. Both are from my good friends Mike and Traci's wedding. The first is of me and my highschool friend Eli and the second one was taken as I was sitting down at the dinner table - you can see some of us already have our masks on and I love the empty wine glasses before me and I guess I was just grateful in that moment that my friends saved me a seat.

Worry not, I have a lot of favorite photos from this year, so don't go crying just yet.

LAST SUNDAY'S LAKERS GAME

music: you set my soul on fire
mood: did I already say something about having to work tomorrow?

Last weekend my friend Andy (or rather Andy's company) hooked us up with some pretty sweet Lakers tickets. How sweet? Sec. 105 Row B Seat 4, sweet. Word. We were two rows behind the courtside seats. It was like I was in a dream that included Kobe Bryant, the Chicago Bulls, a spicy Sausage with ketchup and some Miller Lites.

The Lakers killed the Bulls, though the whole team played really sloppy. As much as my eyes were on the court, I was really keeping a lookout for some celebs to write home about. We peeped Jeremy Piven, Mel Gibson, Andy Garcia, Joe Roth (Revolution Studios chief), Chad Smith (drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), Danielle Fishel (better known as Topanga from Boy Meets World) and maybe Adam Levine, he looked like he was in a hurry.

Here are some pics from my camera phone -

Yeah, them Laker girls are real purty in person. They're also really skilled dancers. Whereas before my PG-13 fantasies involved the girls from The Hills, they now involve the entire 2007 Laker Girl squad. Don't get it twisted - by PG-13 fantasies I mean staying up all night in our jammies, eating ice cream straight out of the carton and blogging. Yeah, the Laker Girls have a blog, and it is as fascinating as one would assume.

THE GREATEST SENTENCE . . . .EVER

music: devendra banhart
mood: back to work tomorrow

After a Thanksgiving Day dinner of lobster in Chinatown, Danny Bonaduce walked by us wearing a blue tank top (it must have been 50 degrees outside) while we were waiting outside the goth-industrial club on Hollywood Blvd.

Sure, it's a pretty compound sentence, but seriously, Danny Bonaduce walked past us. I guess you had to be there.
